The Thomas House on the Cable Road

Here, near the end of the Cable Road is a historic Charles and Elsie Thomas house at the corner of Boone and Summit Boulevard. The Thomas House was built over a decade after the cable line was converted to electric. Spokane's Cable Road ran from Natatorium Park through downtown, across the Monroe Street Bridge, and up the South Hill to about where Roosevelt School is today.

Doctor Charles Thomas, who owned the home here, practiced medicine at Saint Luke's Hospital, just around the bend on Summit Blvd. The present day owner of the Thomas House, Kevin Hekmatpanah, just happened to be home when we were filming on the Cable Road, and offered to chat with us about his house.

After being owned by so many different people who were using the home for so many different purposes, the Thomas house was in need of some intense remodeling.

At the time, Kevin said about the remodeling work: "It's been, about 13 years, and hopefully another 20 years from now, I'll be halfway done." We recorded this episode a few years ago.

What a beautiful home. And an outstanding project. Special thanks to Kevin and his wife for letting us take a peek at their historic home here on the Cable Road. Some of the information about the Thomas House was retrieved from the Historic Nomination form at the Spokane Historic Preservation Office.
