About

The Hot Club of Spokane is a local nonprofit organization (501c3 status pending) in Spokane, WA dedicated to the preservation of jazz, swing, blues, and local history. We're modeled after the original 1930s Hot Club of France, which began as a college club organized by two students, Jacques Auxenfans and Elwyn Dirats, to promote school dances and music listening parties. Eventually, they hired a group of musicians, including Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, who famously became known as the Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Eventually, the organization started a record label and regular publication.

Hot Club of Spokane started in 2007 as a local band, and along the way, grew into its mission to preserve a variety of styles of jazz, swing, and blues, with a special focus on local history, especially the careers of icons like Bing Crosby, Mildred Bailey, Al Rinker, and Bob Crosby, all of whom called Spokane home in their youth. The community of musicians associated with the nonprofit Hot Club of Spokane are organized into local bands The Swingtet of the Hot Club of Spokane, Zonky Jazz Band, and the Red Hot Kitten Stompers.

The King's Guide, or “Chuck King's Guide to Spokane History” is a local history series, and part of the Hot Club of Spokane nonprofit organization.
